Here she is; Lakhi girl.
I think she could say
"Have stick~will travel."
She's definitely happiest
with a stick.

Here's What...

...we were greeted with this morning friends. Yes~here's what...8 inches looks like. :)

and this...
Note the ~tall trees~ we have here in the High Country. I have simply never been able to live around trees that are this tall. It's amazing. I can never get 'the allness' of them in a pic. It is a disappointment not to be able to show you the ~~whole woods~~
dressed in her white. I do hope the calmness and the serenity emanates from~this place; of the velvet white.......
Enjoy. :)

[Even as I write, the powdery sprinkling and smallish ball-like flakes ~driven by the wind 'sound like' light rain on my cracked-open louver window in my room.]

It's cozy here; 21 degrees...wintry white and still powder dusting in a steady sleek and slippery fashion. Yes- we're 'sporting' white today. :)
It is...time for breakfast mate. It's 9:44 A.M.
I have shoveled a path but will 'have to' again. Back later friends. I love the low light that shows in the photos this AM. Oh~ and we have power (this time!) What shall we have I wonder? Most likely...eggs. :)

Best 2 PM Snack....

This gets my vote!
These (if you can't
tell...:) ) are a
southern specialty;
--fried peanuts--
(in the shell.)
You can eat them--
shell and all. They
are dainty
little delights
(chocked full
of salt and
Wash them down
with an ice cold
Pepsi (Yes--i do
imagine that!)
Get the salty,
flavorful nutty
then sugary thing going on and...
all's well.

Something I read lately

...that seemed so...
right. "Happiness is the consequence of personal effort. You fight for it, strive for it, insist upon it, and sometimes even travel around the world looking for it. You have to participate relentlessly in the manifestations of your own blessings. And once you have achieved a state of happiness, you must never become lazy about maintaining it, you must make a mighty effort to keep swimming upward into that happiness forever, to stay afloat on top of it." - Elizabeth Gilbert, EAT PRAY LOVE

Winter feeding guests...

Our winter guests are getting bigger :)

and...hungrier as the days pass. I think these deer
might have been born at the same approximate time~
what do you think?!!

Deer photo: Here is the epitome of a truly great shot! This was taken by my illustrious husband out his office window. Remarkable.

And grassy photo: And finally, here we have it (again.)
That culprit--ice. This is a close-up of some blades of grass (tonight) in our front lawn. The trees (and the power lines) of this here ol' mountain are once again, coated in thick nasty ice.
We got the notion to try and to go to the store, but after watching our nearest neighbor skid and spin his tires to go UP his drive~ we thought the better of not going. We are...stranded-- in this neck of our woods (for the night dear ones...)

Hello Dear Readers!
Although this is not a 'great' photo, the snow-diving squirrel entertains us, diving under 5 inch snow to get corn nuggets that the deer have left behind. He doesn't seem at all concerned about the winter weather conditions! :)

The View:
Pastel images of rich winter beauty; Grandfather Mountain, N.C
; 5,946 ft. We are still deeply steeped in snow and c-c-cold.

More wintry (and recent)
from our
Christmas day

Right now,
Sugar Mountain is

alive with powdery winter
pastel color; ghost-like/other-world
splendor entices the eye and
enlivens the spirit. The light snow
has adhered to the highest trees
(in elevation) giving them a mystic
feel. It's cool beauty compels one to
go back~ and I will.

On Poem Writing

Some words jingle, foam and pop;
sweet dainties of the mind-delight.
Like twangle, dangle, smoof and pling-
words that make my heart-song sing.

There are those words that ‘ping’ the night-
they sneak up fast behind with fright.
Like hooga, dooga, swarf and blight;
they grab your ankle--snarl and bite.

Like mit, and split, and stagger-twain;
they haunt like spirits…and remain.

Words like soldiers flood my cortex;
piling high; a thought-filled vortex.

A small battalion; they hold me fast;
accusing voice- “You battle-axe!
Just let us loose…to fly away-
or we’ll take you to court today!”

Terse and mean-they oft’ dispute;
“Let us out… avoid ‘bad’-lawsuit!”
They shake their finger-they rock the boat;
And when they’re out-they sometimes gloat.

But after all is said and done-
Words like friends are lots of fun.
They link arms and settle down;
to bring joyful blessing
all around.

Like “…joie de vivre” or “jolly elf,"
just stash these words upon your shelf.
And if a rainy day consumes, or black pitch-filled night
---it finds you;
just take words out and shine them up
to grace your head-
revive you.

They lead you on, they save the day-
words can take your breath away.
Adorning gems or jewels that glisten
Take them out and oft’ to listen.

Windswept, racing ,vast filled rooms
encrusted ones; dug up from tombs-
Like burnish or skirmish or gobbledygook
These words, to use--require work.

So when you’re lazy-or your mood; its gray-
gaze upon your life today
through the lens of poetry;
of jive-rhythm-song

and doldrums of the mind

Shiny Stars

Shiny stars all around
rolling off my fingertips
and pressing 'gainst my nose

Shiny stars in pockets mine
jingling just like coins

Shiny stars of hope and joy
tethered moonbeams bobble

Shiny stars like elephants
zip to here-and zip to there
...not hobble.

Shiny stars fill our dreams
not crusted over, wind swept creeping
memories past adorned with sorrow--
but with gleeful promises kept;
sweet promise of
