The Magnificent Magnolia Blossom

My absolute favorite blossom of all time is the
Magnolia grandiflora L.; the Southern Magnolia
blossom. This is a lush, full deep green tree heavy
with big soft vanilla colored blossoms. I captured this one
(and yesterday's
photo of its inside parts) near Salisbury,
N.C.
We do not have this plush variation here in the
High Country (above 4000 feet.) Ours is more
spindly looking with longer petals and not
quite as full. I was eager to photograph
this blossom last weekend!
What a beauty!

  1. Ah! The magnolia - not a bloom I am intimately familiar with. So gorgeous!

  2. I love the magnolia trees when they are full of blossoms like that. So lovely.
